The Art of Antique Buying in Provence

With Sharon Santoni

Overview

This journey through Provence has been designed for those who love antiques, beautiful objects, and the stories behind them.

A lush green provincial garden with a stone pond, floating water lilies, and decorative cherub statues.

Led by Sharon Santoni, who has been sourcing antiques across France for decades, this tour offers a rare opportunity to experience the region through a more knowledgeable and curated lens. Over the years, Sharon has built close relationships with dealers, collectors, and artisans, many of whom open their doors to us privately.

Throughout the week, we will move between some of Provence’s most iconic markets, such as L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and lesser-known brocantes, private homes, and hidden addresses that are not typically accessible. The balance between sourcing, discovery, and simply enjoying the rhythm of the region is what makes this journey so special.

Highlights

Provence has long been one of the most inspiring regions in France for antique lovers.

From rustic farmhouses to grand estates, each place has left behind pieces that now find their way into markets, brocantes, and antique shops across the region.

What makes Provence particularly unique is the diversity of what you can find. One moment you come across simple, beautifully worn pottery or linen, and the next, more refined pieces from larger properties or historic homes.

The markets themselves are an experience. Villages like L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue have become internationally known for antiques, yet still retain that sense of discovery, where every corner, every stall, might hold something unexpected.

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING

WHERE YOU’LL STAY

Les Grands Carmes, Aix-en-Provence

For this journey, we will be staying at Les Grands Carmes, a new boutique hotel by the Fontenille Collection, ideally located in the historic center of Aix-en-Provence.

Set within a beautifully restored heritage site, once linked to a Carmelite convent, the property reflects a more understated and contemporary vision of Provençal luxury. The design draws inspiration from the city’s thermal history, with soft curves, textured walls, and warm tones that echo the light and colours of the region.

With just 39 rooms, the hotel remains intimate in scale, offering a calm and refined atmosphere in the heart of the city. Each guest will have their own private room, all with ensuite bathrooms, ensuring both comfort and privacy throughout the stay.

Being centrally located means you can step outside and immediately explore Aix-en-Provence, whether for a morning coffee, an evening stroll, or a little browsing between visits
