As Paris gears up to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, the city is set to welcome thousands of visitors from around the globe. With the influx of tourists, athletes, and officials, getting around Paris might seem daunting. Here’s a concise guide to help you navigate the city smoothly during the games.

Understanding the Security Zones

Paris will be divided into three main security zones during the Olympics: red, grey, and blue.

1. Red Zone: Restricted to motorized vehicles with a special Games Pass. Pedestrians do not require a pass but certain access points will have heightened security.

2. Grey Zone: Requires a Games Pass for all forms of movement including pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.

3. Blue Zone: No pass required but be prepared for identity checks.

Getting a Games Pass

To access certain areas, you’ll need a Games Pass, available through the official platform https://www.pass-jeux.gouv.fr/en/. Here’s how to get one: Visit the Platform: Head to the website and fill out the application form. Submit Documents: Provide a photo ID and supporting documents. Wait for Approval: Processing may take a few days, so apply early.

Who Needs a Pass?

Anyone over the age of 13 entering the grey zone from July 18 to 26, 2024. Residents, workers, and visitors within the specified perimeters.

Public Transportation Adjustments

Metro and RER

The metro and RER will operate with increased frequency. However, some stations will be closed temporarily:

Metro Line 1: Concorde and Tuileries stations will be closed from June 17 to September 1.

Metro Line 8: Concorde station will be closed from June 17 to September 1.

Metro Line 12: Concorde station closed from May 17 to September 21.

Metro Line 13: Champs-Élysées – Clemenceau station closed from July 20 to August 11, and August 22 to September 8.

Buses and Trams: Expect route diversions and increased shuttle services to venues.

Paris 2024 Pass: This transport pass allows unlimited travel across Paris and its surrounding areas. It can be purchased for durations ranging from 1 to 7 days.

Cycling and Walking Cycling

Paris boasts over 400 km of secure cycle paths. Special Olympic cycle lanes will be marked in pink.

Walking: Many venues are centrally located, making walking a feasible and enjoyable option. Ensure you have your Games Pass if walking through the grey zone.

Taxis and Ride-Sharing Services

During the Olympics, taxis and ride-sharing services will face restrictions, especially in the red and grey zones. Ensure your driver has the necessary authorization, and be prepared to show your Games Pass.

Chauffeured Vehicles

Being picked up from the airport on arrival is always the best way to go.  It is still possible during the Games, but requires early reservation and proof of hotel booking for any police controle en route.   We recommend booking with Sahn Drive, official chauffeurs to MFCH.

Private Vehicles

Using private vehicles in restricted zones will require special permissions. Ensure you apply for these well in advance if you need to use your car in or around the Olympic venues.
