The best places for antiquing in the South of France

A lovely way to spend time in the South of France is hunting for an antique treasure to take home. Whether you're searching through small antique stores, bustling weekly markets, or groups of antique dealers selling together, this guide offers our favorite spots for antiquing in the South.

Villeneuve-lès-Avignon

One of the most charming antique spots in the South of France is Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. This high-end brocante takes place every Saturday, year-round, in a quaint sandy square. Vendors begin setting up as early as 7 a.m. and stay until around lunchtime, so arriving around 8 a.m. gives you plenty of time to browse. Enjoy a leisurely morning, perhaps stopping for coffee, and even have lunch at the fair. This market is 100% authentic and one of the best places to buy antiques in the South of France.

Location: 1 Place Charles David, 30400 Villeneuve-les-Avignon

Hours: Every Saturday, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cours Mirabeau, Aix-en-Provence

Once a month, the Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence transforms into an open-air antiques fair. The fair lasts all day, allowing you plenty of time to browse and enjoy a meal or ice cream at one of the many charming restaurants in the area. Shopping here is a delightful experience, thanks to the fantastic leafy setting.

Location: Cours Mirabeau, Aix-en-Provence 13100

Hours: One Sunday every month, 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m

When visiting these brocantes, make sure to bring cash, as many sellers do not accept credit cards. If you’re looking to strike a bargain, consider negotiating as vendors start packing up at the end of the day. Happy antique hunting!

L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

Often considered the antiques’ Mecca of the South, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a charming town filled with a large number of antique dealers who open every weekend. Each Saturday and Sunday, there is also a brocante fair along the streets. While this is one of France’s best places for buying antiques, be prepared for higher prices.

Location: Avenue des Quatre Otages, 84800 L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

Hours: Sundays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m

Le Jas des Roberts
